- The Gallaudet University Archives is dedicated to the preservation of collections related to the Deaf community. The Gallaudet University Archives houses 4,100,'000 pages of archival documents; 2,500 Deaf rare books; 2,000 reports from various Deaf schools from the 1800s and 1900s; 1,250,000 newspaper clippings related to the world Deaf community; 700 items of architectural drawings of Deaf schools, public buildings, and private residences; 900 films and videotapes; and 145,000 photographs, 30,000 slides, and 125,000 negatives. The oldest item in the Archives is a book published in 1546. The Gallaudet University Archives is open to the public for research on Deaf history and culture.
