For most people, the dream of enrolling into a Mississippi state college or university comes with a mixed fear of college expence burden. But, if you have a knowledge about the various grants and scholarships that most states offer, attending a college in Mississippi can become an affordable dream.
The grants are administered not only by the government of Mississippi, but also by national lobbies, private resources and other local generosities. Listed below are a few of these grants and scholarships:
- Mississippi Tuition Grants: Individuals having a GPA of 2.5 or higher and trying to seek their first full-time 2 or 4 year degree in one of the state colleges or universities, are eligible for this particular grant.
- Higher Education Legislative Plan (HELP): This grant is particularly for families who are in dire need of financial aid, with a GPA of at least 2.5. The other conditions which apply for an individual to be qualified for this grant include, that the student have multiple siblings with a household income of $36,000 or less.
- Mississippi Eminent Scholars Grant: Unlike the HELP program, this grant for $2500, requires one to have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Since, this is a merit-based grant, the student should be a high scorer in the college entrance exam and should choose to enroll into a full-time undergraduate program.
Apart from the regular grants and scholarships that the state of Mississippi sponsors, their are a few individuals who volunteer to provide financial aids to the needy students. One such individual who willingly provides for the education needs of the students is Nissan Motors, an enormous employer of Mississippi. He is actively involved in helping students demonstrating community service and maintaining a GPA of 2.5.
