Established by the SUNY Board of Trustees on June 14, 1966, the State University of New York Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome (SUNYIT) is New York’s public institute of technology. Originally a graduate and upper-division institution, the college offered classes in temporary locations and at extension sites for several years until the first buildings were constructed on the permanent campus in Marcy, N.Y., in the 1980s. Through internships and close cooperation with employers, SUNYIT has extraordinarily high placement rates. More than 22,000 alumni pursue successful careers in communication, computer science, management, nursing, and many other fields.
