The George Street Neighbourhood Centre is your community centre. The community workers at the centre are available for information and referrals, support, community education and community development. If you would like to suggest changes to situations in your community or be part of a group with similar interests / needs, please give us a call on 4957 2626. Neighbourhood Centres are unique because they respond to the needs of their local communities. George Street Neighbourhood Centre is a place where everyone is treated equally with respect, regardless of age, race, gender or ability. At George Street Neighbourhood Centre everyone has the opportunity to develop skills, build self-esteem, interact with others in our community and have fun.

In 2008 the Queensland Government established the Shakespeare Child and Family Centre in Mackay—the first of ten new Early Childhood Education and Care Centres to open statewide. The Shakespeare Child and Family Centre is managed by the George Street Neighbourhood Centre Association Inc. in partnership with the Mackay Children’s Support Program.
