Open to students who will be a junior or senior undergraduate in the subsequent school year (after the award is presented) with demonstrated financial need and demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in the mining industry through extensive coursework, work experience, active in Member Society local chapter or student member of Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME)
