This scholarships is one that provides students with unlimited opportunities to speak their target language with native and near-native language professionals and with each other. Students there use their language exclusively—in classes, dining halls, dormitories, and throughout an exceptional range of cocurricular activities. Whether they are studying Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish, they are strongly encouraged to remain on campus during evenings and weekends, to take advantage of a rich and varied program of language-specific activities designed to enrich their classroom learning. Students are required to sign a pledge only to speak the target language—a pledge which is strictly enforced. |
