The Junction Community Centre began in 1986, following the donation of a church building to the community. A public meeting decided that a playgroup would be the most useful way in which to use the building. The playgroup brought people into the Centre, and from there new activities and services were added to the program. The Junction Community Centre is located close to Port Adelaide, an area which is culturally diverse. This diversity is reflected in the ethnic mix of people who use the Centre.Indigenous Australian, Vietnamese, Anglo Celtic Australian, Polish, Italian, Bosnian, THAI, Cambodian, Indian, Fijian, Samoan, Ethiopian, Sudanese, Salvadorian, Chilean people all use the Centre. Not surprisingly the needs of the local community are varied and the range of activities provided at the Centre is continually evolving to meet the needs of the community.
"The Junction Community Centre aims to create a welcoming, responsive, inclusive and supportive environment, working with the community to help it meet the needs of individuals, families and community groups in the local area"This centre provides a variety of programs in low cost for all ages.
