On 3 May 2012 MCD University of Divinity celebrated its first Conferral Ceremony as a University of Specialisation with song, speech and prayer. The Chancellor, Dr Graeme Blackman, awarded diplomas, degrees and doctorates to 326 graduands in the presence of family, friends, faculty and distinguished guests. The Conferral Address was given by Dr Michael Spence, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sydney. He called upon MCD University of Divinity to be a prophetic institution that would ‘model unity in difference’ to the world around it, and to ‘remind the University sector of the intellectual resources of the Christian tradition’ in which ‘truth can be known, but never exhausted’.
Each of the member institutions is encouraged to be true to its heritage and commitments, while contributing to a theologically diverse community of scholarship. Students, staff, alumni and friends of MCD University of Divinity therefore participate proudly in a collaborative effort that seeks to achieve collectively what member institutions could not accomplish individually.
